Sickie Ickie's Easy Prop Detail

Often props we buy look good when we buy them, but don't show up well under the special lighting we do in our haunts. Take the photo above for instance, Close up in ambient lighting it looks fine and almost realistic (in a fantasy-we-live-in-a-world-of-horror sort of way.)

But here's what it looks like in simulated haunt lighting... In my opinion, not enough detail. Looks like your faceless couch potato boss in the office- a blob.

So, let's detail it. By taking a Sharpie Marker, we can highlight areas we would like to stand out. In this case I pretty much followed the lines carved. By using a Sharpie the ink is permanent, and now Sharpies come in a zillion different colors. Kinda like the different dye jobs on a woman who has reached her middle age life crisis.
Now let's see how it looks in simulated haunt conditions:

Ahhhhhhh! That's better. The features stand out more and details are more menacing.

Once again, the difference side by side...

And yet again...
So there you have it. For under the cost of a Sharpie pen, you have a prop that works much better in your haunt conditions. Don't be scared to use the markers! After all- you bought your prop for your haunt in the first place...right? left
